Dr Katharine Tidswell
Profile
Let’s Verbalise are excited to welcome to the team Dr Katharine Tidswell, a Clinical Psychologist with 11 years of post-qualification experience diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Since qualifying in 2011, Kat has been working in a busy NHS Child and Adolescent MentalHealth (CAMHS) team contributing to multidisciplinary neurodevelopmental assessments ofAutism Spectrum Disorder alongside comorbid conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, anxiety and depression. Kat is trained in using the ADOS-II and has found this a useful structure in which to observe features of ASD having used it over 100 times! Kat is experienced in taking detailed developmental histories from parents/carers and using this, together with information from other sources and settings, to provide a full formulation (picture or understanding) of the Young Person’s developmental profile, within the context of their family system.
Kat enjoys the challenge of engaging a diverse range of young people in a fun and friendly assessment experience (even the reluctant ones!) In her NHS role, she has worked with more complex cases where mental health difficulties, attachment difficulties or traumatic experiences are making it particularly tricky to see what is going on for the young person and their family. She has an interest in how female presentations of ASD may differ from the more typical male presentation. Kat has experience of working with young people who are experiencing gender dysphoria.
Qualifications, experience and training: Kat graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2011 with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy). Since then, she has worked in a busy NHS CAMHS Team. Kat has 16 years of experience in using comprehensive psychometric assessment tools to measure overall intellectual ability.
